Dental Filling

A dental filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. The dentist removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.

What is the process to get a dental filling?

First, our dentist will use a local anesthetic to numb the surrounding area where the tooth will be filled. The next involves using an instrument to remove the decayed area. Once all the decay has been removed, our dentist will prepare the space for the filling by removing any bacteria or debris that he or she sees.

After the decay and bacteria are removed, if the cavity is near the root, the dentist may put in a protective liner. If it is not near the root, the filling will be applied in layers in a tooth-colored material. Once the material is in place, the dentist will finish and polish it.
